Centre hikes MSP for Rabi crops by 2% amid farmers stir

New Delhi, 08th September: The Central Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on Rabi crops for the marketing season 2022-23. In this, wheat has been increased by Rs 40 and gram by Rs 130 per quintal as compared to last year.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) of the Union Cabinet has decided to increase the MSP of crops on Wednesday.

According to the Central Government, wheat has increased by Rs 40, barley by Rs 35, gram by Rs 130, lentils and mustard by Rs 400 and safflower by Rs 114. With this increase, in the marketing year 2022, the MSP will be purchased for wheat at Rs 2015, barley at Rs 1635, gram Rs 5230, masoor at Rs 5500, mustard at Rs 5050 and safflower at Rs 5441.

The government said that the current announcement of MSP is based on the announcement in the Union Budget-2019 to pay one and a half times more than the production.
