CBI extradites ‘wanted’ criminal Sahil Chauhan from Thailand

New Delhi, April 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday extradited Sahil Chauhan, a wanted criminal by the Haryana Police, from Thailand. He was wanted for a long time in cases including murder, attempt to murder, robbery and use of illegal weapons.

The CBI said that Sahil Chauhan is an active member of the Bhuppi Rana gang and was convicted in a gang rivalry shootout at the Jagadhri court complex in Yamunanagar in 2017. After being released on bail, he absconded and went abroad.

The CBI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, took action through Interpol channels and deported him from Bangkok and brought him back to India at the Delhi International Airport, where he was taken into custody by the Haryana Police.

The agency stated that Sahil Chauhan shot Monu Rana in the Jagadhri court complex in Yamunanagar on January 4, 2017, when he was brought to the court for a hearing on pending criminal cases. Following the incident, a charge sheet was filed against him, and the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison. However, after being released on bail, he absconded and fled abroad.

Based on the request of the Haryana Police, the NCB, New Delhi, issued a red notice against Sahil Chauhan. He was subsequently traced to Bangkok and deported to India.
