CAA and NRC protest:District administration is on high alert in view of Friday prayer, mobile sms and internet services will remain suspended till Saturday in Lucknow

Lucknow, 20 December: The administration is in full alert mode after overcoming the violence in the capital on Thursday. Police patrolled all night in various districts including the capital Lucknow. Social media is also being monitored. Internet services have been closed in many metros and districts including Lucknow.

The state government has extended the deadline to suspend mobile, SMS and Internet services till Saturday afternoon in view of violent protests in various districts on Thursday in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Lucknow District Magistrate has sent a letter to the Principal Secretary (Home) to stop internet services till Saturday. Services in Prayagraj will remain closed till Friday afternoon. The police are very cautious about the prayers offered.

DGP OP Singh said that 55 people involved in violent activities have been arrested in the state. We are searching for CCTV footage. SSP Lucknow will take appropriate action, we will not spare anyone.

On Thursday itself, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had expressed strong resentment over violent demonstrations in many other districts of the state including Lucknow. He has instructed strict action by marking the miscreants. The Chief Minister said that the loss of public and private property will be compensated by auctioning the property of miscreants.

Yogi also questioned the role of the opposition. He said that Congress, SP and other leftist organizations are creating unnecessary confusion. Yogi said that the miscreants will be dealt with strictly. Violence in the name of performance will not be accepted.

However, CM himself is reviewing the entire action. Late in the night, Yogi took stock of the situation through video conferencing. In the wake of Friday prayers, special vigilance was ordered on Friday.
