Kolkata, November 17: The Border Security Force (BSF) objected to the allegations of (BSF) being dragged into the clash between the Centre and the state and also misbehaving with women on the pretext of checking by the BSF jawans by calling it unfortunate.

On Wednesday, the BSF South Bengal ADG YB Khurania held a press conference at the regional headquarters at Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata.

He said that female BSF personnel are deployed at every checking point on the border, who frisk women. Apart from this, CCTV cameras are installed everywhere. Such allegations against jawans who are alert 24 hours for the safety of the people are inappropriate.

Khurania said that we have more than four thousand female soldiers. All allegations are being thoroughly investigated. If there is a specific complaint, it should be investigated.

Responding to a question, he said that if the jurisdiction of the BSF is increased from 15 km to 50 km, then there is no question of taking land for it. There is no need to create a new BOP. The BSF will continue to function as it did 15 km from the border.

Khurania said that the BSF is not an investigative agency. We do not have the right to file an FIR. It is our job to find and apprehend the prisoners. After that confiscation and other proceedings are done by the state police. BSF soldiers have good relations with the state police. We exchange information with the state police. The operation is carried out jointly at different times. By increasing the area, the BSF will not get additional powers. Enlargement of the jurisdiction of the border will not interfere with the maintenance of law and order.

It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, ruling party Trinamool Congress MLA Udayan Guha in the assembly had accused the BSF of inappropriately touching the bodies of women in the name of checking by paramilitary forces along the border. After this allegation, politics has heated up in the state with the beginning of a verbal war between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress
