Patna, 07 January: A high capacity super grid will be built at Katihar district in Bihar. Its total capacity will be 765 kV.

The Central Government has approved the construction of this super grid. This will be Bihar’s second super grid with such a capacity. This grid will also construct the transmission line up to Bangladesh which will provide electricity to Bangladesh.

At the same time, Bihar will be the first state in the country to have electricity connectivity to three countries.

Power Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said on Thursday that the project would cost Rs 4300 crore. The transmission capacity of North Bihar will improve after the construction of this super grid in Katihar. Also, Bihar’s connectivity with Northeast India will also increase. This will be the second super grid in Bihar with a total capacity of 765 kV. Gaya also has a super grid with so much capacity.

He said that Bihar already has international connectivity with Nepal and Bhutan.

It is noteworthy that the maximum 1200 KV super grid is already in Bina of Madhya Pradesh. Before the construction of this super grid, the burden on the grids of Bihar will be reduced.

In the 18th India-Bangladesh Joint Screening Committee meeting of the Joint Working Group of the Power Sector, the construction of a 765 kV capacity super grid has been agreed.

However, the Bangladesh had expressed a desire to get electricity through Bihar. It was then decided to construct a super grid at Katihar. It will be constructed by Power Grid of India (PGI).

The Union Ministry of Power has given instructions to Power Grid to start work on this scheme. The construction is targeted to be completed by December 2022. This will make it possible to bring 1500–1600 MW of power.

Super grid will be installed in Korha

Super grid will be constructed at Korha tehsil in Katihar district. About 150 acres of land will be required for this. About 20 acres of this land has been kept for future expansion plans. Being a flood-free zone, the Korha has been selected. Bangladesh’s border is also close from here.

Bangladesh will get 800 MW of electricity

Currently 800 MW power is planned to be delivered to Bangladesh through this super grid. The Katihar Super Grid will have a 415 km long transmission line. It will have connectivity through two separate transmission lines to Katihar as well as to Bornagar in Assam. Supergrid and transmission lines will be constructed in such a way that electricity can be brought from Bangladesh to Bihar or Northeast India in future.

State Power Minister Yadav has thanked Union Minister of State for Energy RK Singh and Prime Minister’s Advisor PK Sinha for Katihar Super Grid.
