About 21 lakh publicity materials have been removed so far across UP: state electoral officer

Effective implementation and strict compliance of the Model Code of Conduct is being done in Uttar Pradesh: Chief Electoral Officer

Lucknow , 20 March: Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Wednesday that to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct, a total of 20,86,614 publicity materials have been removed from public and private places so far. In this, 12,40,658 promotional materials were removed from public places and 8,45,956 promotional materials were removed from private places. 

He told that during this period, action was taken in 1,45,075 cases of wallwriting, 6,19,739 of posters, 3,99,221 of banners and 1,75,623 other cases in public places. Similarly, action was taken in 97,702 cases of wall-writing, 3,95,284 of posters, 2,42,866 of banners and 1,19,104 other cases in private places. Similarly, 98 actions were taken on misuse of vehicles and 285 actions were taken on misuse of loudspeakers. 04 FIRs were registered in illegal assembly, speech and other matters.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that action is being taken by Police, Income Tax, Excise and Narcotics and other departments in effective compliance of the Model Code of Conduct. 508 interstate checkpoints and 1653 intrastate checkpoints are operated for intensive checking. Till March 19, 2,23,902 licensed weapons were deposited by the police department. Apart from this, 271 licenses were also confiscated. 3,391 licenses were cancelled.

Similarly, 3,68,471 people were banned by taking preventive action under CrPC. Apart from this, 748 weapons, 767 cartridges, 04 kg explosives and 62 bombs were recovered by the police department. Police raided and seized 135 centers manufacturing illegal weapons.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that till March 19, about Rs 1314.81 lakh in cash was seized by the Excise, Income Tax, Police and Narcotics Department and various agencies. On March 19, 12 thousand grams of drugs worth Rs 130 lakh were seized in Badaun district.

8410 liters of liquor worth Rs 49.07 lakh was seized from Maniharan Assembly constituency of Mirzapur district. Similarly, 318000 grams of drugs worth Rs 79.50 lakh were seized from Bhogaon assembly of Mainpuri district. At the state level, 1904 Flying Scot teams and a total of 732 teams of enforcement agencies are doing surveillance work.
