80-yr-old woman raped, assaulted in Kanpur, accused on the run

Kanpur, 29 March: A case of rape of an octogenarian woman has come to light in Bilhaur police station area of Kanpur city in Uttar Pradesh on the night of Thursday-Friday. After the matter came to notice, the police immediately registered a case and started searching for the accused.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police West Vijendra Dwivedi said on Friday that an 80-year-old elderly woman was sleeping alone at home on Thursday night in Bilhaur police station area.

Then a 22-year-old youth living in the neighborhood entered their house under the influence of alcohol and raped the elderly woman. When she protested, he beat the old woman, due to which the victim’s tooth was also broken.

When the old woman raised an alarm, the accused escaped from the spot by jumping over the wall. The police arrived on the information of the family and immediately sent the victim to the hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the victim woman and the accused are same-caste neighbours living in the same locality. The victim appears to be the grandmother of the accused by family relation.

The accused works as a labourer in filling hay on a straw cart and is addicted to drinking alcohol. At present the accused is absconding after the incident. On the basis of the complaint received from the victim’s family, a case has been registered and the accused is being searched.
