7 people convicted in Rajupal murder case, slain gangster Atiq Ahmad also made accused

Lucknow, March 29: All the seven accused in the murder case of BSP MLA Rajupal were convicted by the Special CBI Court of Lucknow on Friday. The court has sentenced six convicts to life imprisonment and one to four years’ imprisonment.

Atiq Ahmad and Ashraf, who died in police custody, were also named in the Raju Pal murder case. The seven surviving accused – Abid, Farhan, Javed, Abdul Qavi, Gul Hasan, Israr and Ranjit Pal – have been convicted. Of these, Abid, Javed, Abdul Qavi, Gul Hasan, Israr and Ranjit Pal have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 each. Farhan has been found guilty of possessing illegal weapons. He has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000.

It is noteworthy that on January 25, 2005, the then BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead in Dhumanganj, Prayagraj. Police investigation had revealed that Rajupal was murdered due to defeating mafia Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf in the assembly elections. Mafia Atiq and his brother Ashraf were also guilty in this murder case, but some shooters had murdered them in Prayagraj.
