Bahraich, 12 July: Three people were detained, including a pastor, for reportedly assaulting a local Bajrang Dal office bearer who claimed to be organising a campaign against religious conversion.

Dipanshu Srivastava alias Deepak filed a FIR at Nanpara police station on Tuesday night, alleging that while returning from village Kakri to Banjaria around 10.30 p.m., pastor Anil and others attacked him with sticks and rods, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Pavitra Mohan Tripathi.

According to the ASP, a FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the IPC against Anil, Ram Narain, Rohit Maurya, and one other individual in response to his allegation.

He stated that three people identified in the FIR have been apprehended, and that efforts are being made to apprehend one more individual implicated in the case.

Srivastava is a Bajrang Dal ‘vibhag sanyojak’. He filed a complaint in June against six people, including Pastor Anil, for allegedly disrespecting Hindu Gods and enticing locals into religious conversion.

Srivastava said that he was intimidated and attacked because he was attempting to prevent religious conversion by Christian missionaries. A thorough investigation is underway, according to police.
