Zika virus in UP: 3 IAF officers test positive for Zika virus, tally reaches 4 in Kanpur

Kanpur, 30 October: Three more patients of Zika virus have also been found. The new three patients are also Indian Air Force (IAF) officers and are living near the Air Force station.  

On being informed, the officers of the district administration and medical department immediately rushed to the Air Force station and started preparing a strategy to deal with it.

Recently, Zika virus was confirmed in an Air Force officer in the city. Regarding this, 72 teams of the city’s health department were monitoring the four km radius from the Air Force station premises, while teams from Lucknow and Delhi are also camping in the city.

However, right now these teams were going door to door collecting information related to Zika virus i.e. symptoms among people that now Zika virus has been confirmed in three more people.

All three are also Air Force officers and belong to the same area. Due to this the health teams of the city and the teams of Lucknow along with Delhi came under shock.

From the Health Department to the Administration Department also swung into action and District Magistrate (DM) Visakh G Iyer, along with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Nepal Singh reached the Air Force Station premises.

It is being told that the source of Zika virus has also been detected in the Air Force station itself. Mosquito breeding has been reported in the water tank of the Air Force station.

The DM discussed with the officials regarding the action of the container. With the newly infected being found, the Health Department is preparing to run a campaign at the Air Force Station. Under this, pregnant women living in the Air Force area, people in the vicinity of the Air Force Station will be tested for Zika virus.

Infected people will get better treatment

The health department is making plans to stop the breeding cycle of mosquitoes. The Health Department will run this campaign jointly on behalf of the Municipal Corporation and the Air Force.

DM Visakh G Iyer confirmed the newly infected, as well as said that arrangements are being made for better treatment of the infected patients. Arrangements have been made for the treatment of Zika virus patients at Air Force Hospital and Hallet Hospital.
