Lucknow, 11 December: The Dandupur railway station, situated between Pratapgarh-Badshahpur on the Lucknow-Varanasi railway section in the district Pratapgarh, has now been renamed as ‘Maa Barahi Devi Dham’. For this, the state government has issued a notification.

The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has earlier changed the name of another railway station after renaming Allahabad railway station to Prayagraj.

Principal Secretary Public Works Department (PWD) Nitin Ramesh Gokarn said on Friday that the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India has given a no objection in this regard.

Principal Secretary told that now people will know ‘Dandupur’ railway station as ‘Maa Barahi Devi Dham’.

In fact, there was a long-standing demand to change the name of this railway station located in Raniganj Tehsil Headquarters in Pratapgarh district. It has now been named ‘Maa Barahi Devi Dham’ in order to pledge to give special recognition to local religious and spiritual sites while respecting the sentiments of the people.

Many trains including express and passenger stop at this railway station. Here Kashi Vishwanath train coming from Delhi to Varanasi, Raebareli-Jaunpur Express, Lucknow-Varanasi Intercity and PV train stop. There is a temple of โ€˜Maa Barahi Deviโ€™ on the high mound in Parasrampur village, about six kilometers from the station. A large number of devotees come to pay obeisance at this ancient temple.
