Yogi govt hikes sugarcane price by ₹ 30/quintal

Lucknow, October 29: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a major decision to provide relief to sugarcane farmers. The state government has announced a rise in the price of sugarcane by ₹ 30 per quintal.

According to the new rates, the price of early variety sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal and the price of normal variety sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 390 per quintal. This announcement was made for the crushing season 2025-26, informed state’s Sugarcane Minister, Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, during a press conference held at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday.

The Sugarcane Minister stated that this government decision will directly benefit millions of sugarcane farmers in the state. The sugarcane price increase will result in an additional payment of approximately Rs 3,000 crore to farmers.

He stated that the support price for sugarcane has been increased four times since 2017. In the past eight and a half years, a record ₹290,225 crore has been paid to farmers, compared to only ₹147,346 crore between 2007 and 2017. Thus, sugarcane farmers have received ₹142,879 crore more during the Yogi government’s tenure than in previous governments. This government decision is being seen as a major relief and good news for farmers.

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary expressed his gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the sugarcane price increase. He said that the Uttar Pradesh government respected the sweetness of sugarcane and the hard work of farmers.
