Anwar Ali, accused of molesting a minor, held in UP police encounter

 Moradabad, October 29: The Moradabad district police of Uttar Pradesh has arrested Anwar Ali, accused of molestation, after an encounter on Wednesday, within eight hours of the case being registered. The accused was shot in the leg and admitted to the district hospital for treatment, police said.

The Thakurdwara Circle Officer (CO) Ashish Pratap Singh reached the hospital and interrogated the accused.

The mother of a Dalit girl, resident of Gopivala village, filed a complaint with the police at 10 pm on Tuesday, stating that her daughter had gone to Anwar Ali’s shop to buy a scarf. Meanwhile, the accused molested her. When the girl returned home and reported the incident, her family immediately lodged a complaint at the police station. Police registered a case against the accused under sections of molestation and the POCSO Act. At around 6 am on Wednesday, a police team led by Kotwali in-charge Inspector Sanjay Kumar Panchal began searching for the accused.

Meanwhile, information was received that the accused was trying to escape from Kalajhanda towards Sharifnagar. When the police surrounded him, the accused, Anwar Ali, opened fire. In retaliation, a police bullet hit the accused’s leg, causing him to fall to the ground. The police apprehended the injured accused and admitted him to the district hospital.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Kunwar Akash Singh stated that the accused is undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Circle Officer inquired about the injured and spoke with him about the incident. Further action is being taken in the matter.
