Mumbai, June 8: Another incident has shaken Mumbai two days after the murder at the Charni Road hostel. In Mira Road, a 36-year-old woman was reportedly slain and hacked into “several pieces” by her live-in spouse. While 13 body parts were discovered at the accused’s home, sources claimed he disposed of others after chopping them into numerous pieces, adding that the accused used to “boil body parts in cooker” to ensure there was no bad odour. Initially, police just discovered the victim’s leg.

Manoj Sahani (56), the accused, was apprehended Wednesday late at night while attempting to depart his rented flat. Over the last three years, Sahani had been living with the victim, Saraswati Vaidya, in flat 704 of the Geeta Akash Deep building in Geeta Nagar Phase 7.

Here’s how police learn about sensational murder. According to officials, tenants of the building complained to the Nayanagar police station at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday about a bad odour coming from flat number 704.

Sahani answered the door when cops arrived at her Mira Road flat. When he saw the cops approaching, he attempted to leave. But he was apprehended with the aid of the locals. Only the victim’s legs were discovered when police entered the flat. Some of the body parts were allegedly disposed of by the accused over the course of two to three days.

“We have arrested Sahani and are investigating to find out the motive behind the murder and how he carried it out,” said Jayant Bajbale, deputy commissioner of police (zone 1).

‘Accused of feeding stray dogs’: According to reports, residents informed cops that the duo did not interact with anybody in the building.

Residents told police that Sahani was spotted feeding stray dogs in the neighbourhood for the last two to three days, something he had never done before. According to the insiders, investigators assume he fed some of his body parts to strays.

Officers are also investigating if body pieces were flushed down the toilet. The door of the couple’s flat lacks a nameplate and is registered in the name of Sonam Builders. On Sunday, police think the murder occurred. They also think that the accused strangled Vaidya and cut her body with a saw. The saw used to cut the corpse was seized.
