‘Wanted’ criminal carrying whopping bounty shot dead in UP police encounter

Lucknow/Sultanpur, 05 Jan: Officials said a ‘wanted’ criminal was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force in Sultanpur district on Friday.

Vinod Kumar Upadhyay, a resident of Mayabazar, Ayodhya, was recognized as the accused. He was wanted in 35 crimes in several areas, according to authorities.

On Thursday night, the STF and local police encircled Upadhyay in the Dehat Kotwali police station area and urged him to surrender. Deepak Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Special Task Force (STF), informed reporters in Sultanpur that he opened fire on the cops, who replied. Upadhyay was shot during the exchange of fire and was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to Additional Director General of Police, STF, Amitabh Yash.

According to authorities, the body has been sent for the autopsy, and the criminal’s guns and ammunition have been collected.

According to authorities, Upadhyay has been charged with 35 heinous crimes in Gorakhpur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Lucknow. For months, the STF had been looking for Upadhyay. According to a police release, Gorakhpur police issued a Rs 1 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest in September 2023.
