Varanasi, September 29: The Sigra police in Varanasi district has filed a case against the social media accounts for spreading this false information about ropeway accidents and has initiated an investigation.
A video went viral on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) claiming that the carriage of the ropeway inaugurated in Varanasi had fallen. After posting the video, it was written, “Modi ji’s four-kilometer ropeway in Varanasi, built at a cost of 800 crores, broke and fell as soon as the inauguration took place, and interestingly, BJP leaders also fell along with it. So much cost and the result—a disaster.”
However, the video was actually of an accident at the famous Maa Bamleshwari Temple (Dongargarh) in Chhattisgarh, but it was deliberately passed off as Varanasi. As soon as the 26-second video went viral on social media, the police swung into action on the orders of DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Bansal.
As soon as the police began investigation of the matter, the user who posted it with the username “@DrSheetalYadav” apologized and deleted the post. The accused user wrote that this incident did not occur at the Varanasi ropeway. The video was posted without any investigation, and I apologize to those whose sentiments were hurt.
—Action taken on another video.
Similarly, another user named Ashok Danoda shared the same video, writing, “The accident happened at the Maa Bamleshwari Temple in Chhattisgarh… but look at the power of social media—the mere mention of Varanasi sparked emotions! It seems the name is the biggest temple where people trust, not the truth.”
In these cases, a case has been registered at Sigra police station based on the complaint of the Roadways outpost in-charge. The accused have been charged with spreading false and misleading information, inciting public sentiment, and tarnishing the image of the Government of India’s ropeway dream project.
In this regard, DCP Kashi Zone stated that strict action will be taken against those spreading such rumors.
