Varanasi: People gheraoed Cantt MLA Saurabh Srivastava campaigning for PM Modi

Varanasi, 7 May: Cantt BJP MLA Saurabh Srivastava, who was out to campaign for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was surrounded by people in Assi-Nagwan area on Tuesday. People in the locality protested against the MLA and alleged that their houses have been declared public property by fake means.

“Our ancestors bought land and built houses, now we are being uprooted,” the mob alleged. Citizens told the MLA that about 300 houses of Asi-Nagwa area have been fraudulently deleted by SDM Sadar and declared as public land. A few days ago, Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma came to Sadar area and also conducted a survey. People say that work is being done to uproot us in the name of Jagannath Corridor.

Jai Narayan Mishra, Raghavendra Pandey, Nanku, Kaushalendra Pandey, Golu Mishra, Ganesh Tiwari of the area said that our ancestors had bought land and had built a house. “Today efforts are being made to destroy us. Where is this justice? Since the survey work is going on in the area, the happiness and peace of the people of the locality has been snatched away,” they claimed.

Social worker Ramyash Mishra said that “whose words we should believe”. “On one hand, Varanasi Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma is coming to our house and saying that you people should go to the court, we are doing our work. At the same time, the public representative of our assembly constituency Saurabh Srivastava is assuring that your houses will not be demolished. After all, whom should we trust” Our name was removed from the house and it was declared public. Where is this justice?? he quppied.

Seeing the opposition of the local people, MLA Saurabh Srivastava has given a written assurance on plain paper that “your houses will not be demolished and whatever plan is being made will be cancelled”. He also talked to the Commissioner and ADM City over phone.
