Hindu, Christian, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh refugees can apply for Indian citizenship

Lucknow, January 06: Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has started the process of identifying and listing of refugees so that they can be granted Indian citizenship under the rule of Citizenship Amendment Act-2019(CAA). For this, officials of the state government have been made aware about this at the government level. Uttar Pradesh would be the first state of the country to initiate the process of recognising the persecuted minorities residing in state. Hence, the state government is taking rapid steps towards granting citizenship to migrants.

According to the state government, so far information has been revealed that the number of migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are more in Bareilly, Rampur, Saharanpur, Shahjahanpur, Hapur, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budhanagar including the capital city Lucknow in comparison of other districts of the state and currently these people are residing without Indian citizenship. With a view to implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act on the ground, the state home department has now instructed the District Magistrates of all the districts to identify long-term refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

In fact, the CAA provides for citizenship to minority refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. In it, Christian, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh and Hindu refugees who are residing in these countries for religious reasons and persecuted for their religious reasons, who are residing in India before 2015, can apply to get Indian citizenship. According to sources, the list of refugees is being made so that it can be sent to the Union Home Department and open the path of citizenship of India to the refugees coming under the purview of CAA. Although a written order has not been issued by the government in this regard, but on the instructions of the Home Department, all the District Magistrates have engaged in this exercise.

According to Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi, through this list, with the help of the state government, the number of actual migrants will be revealed, which will pave the way for them to get citizenship of India. The government will also inform the Union Home Ministry on illegal Muslim migrants in the state. There is no provision for granting citizenship to the people of Muslim community from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. In such a situation, they will also be identified and listed and the details will also be sent to the Union Home Ministry. The central government will take appropriate action in this regard as per rules.

BSP delegation met Governor, demand for judicial inquiry

Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party delegation met Governor Anandiben Patel on CAA issue on Monday. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor on the action being taken against the CAA and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter. After meeting the Governor, BSP National General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said that innocent people are being harassed in the name of CAA.

Demand to give 25 to 50 lakh compensation to the relatives of the deceased

He said that he has met the Governor for the release of innocent people. Those who have committed violence, they should be punished but no innocent should be disturbed. SC Mishra said that the Governor along with taking the memorandum has also given an assurance that 25 to 50 lakh compensation should be given to the people killed during the demonstration. BSP General Secretary on compensation of the families of those killed by the Samajwadi Party Said that nothing will happen from five lakhs. Therefore the government should be compensated from twenty five to fifty lakhs.

Sending innocent people to jail is condemnable: Mayawati

According to BSP chief Mayawati, the innocent people who have been sent to jail, including those in Bijnor, Sambhal, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Firozabad and other districts, have been sent to jail without any investigation in the protests against the CAA-NRC in the state. It is also exposed, it is very shameful and condemnable.

She has demanded that the state government release them immediately and for this the government should also apologize for their mistake. Also, the state government must also provide justifiable financial help to the families who have died in it.

Leader of Opposition working to spread anarchy: Shrikant Sharma

State government spokesperson and Power Minister Shrikant Sharma said that the government has identified such people who spread violence. The SP-BSP and the Congress gave their silent support to the violence. Action is also being taken against the miscreants involved in the violence, but the people of the opposition are glorifying the rioters. Their leaders are going to the rioters’ home and working to spread chaos again in the state, which is moving forward on the path of peace. This situation is very embarrassing.

BJP state president Swatantra Dev made people aware

Meanwhile, BJP is engaged in public relations across the state on the issue of CAA at the organization level. Senior party leaders themselves are going door-to-door for this, so that the workers get excited and make this campaign successful on the ground. BJP’s Jan Jagran Abhiyan till 25 January

According to state spokesperson Manish Shukla, the party is making people aware by clearing the spread of opposition on the CAA, so that the conspiracy of the opposition does not succeed. With the confusion spread by the opposition including Congress and SP about CAA, the BJP has started a nationwide mass campaign to answer the opposition in favor of violence and stonewalling and we are reaching out among the people at the district level. The Jan Jagran Abhiyan will continue throughout the state till 25 January 2020. As part of the Sampark Abhiyan, the party has decided to reach out to more than 50 lakh families with a resolve to reach nearly one lakh villages across the state.
