UPPCL gives proposal to UPERC for reduction in power bill

Lucknow, 25 October: Electricity bills will be reduced in Uttar Pradesh, for this, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), on behalf of the power companies, has filed a proposal in the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) for reduction in Quarter-1 fuel surcharge for the year 2023-24.

The State Electricity Consumer Council has expressed happiness over this proposal. Consumer Council was fighting for this for a long time.

This decision of Power Corporation will reduce the electricity bill from 18 paise per unit to 69 paise per unit.

According to the proposal filed by Power Corporation, fuel surcharge for domestic BPL will be 18 paise per unit, for general domestic 26 to 34 paise per unit, for commercial 34 to 48 paise per unit, for farmers 13 to 30 paise per unit, for non-industrial bulkload. But it will be reduced from 46 to 69 paise per unit, in heavy industries it will be reduced from 33 to 38 paise per unit.

Whereas for rural domestic unmetered, currently Rs 500 per kilo watt per month is charged. Their electricity rates will benefit by Rs 50-90 paise per kilo watt per month, while farmers will benefit by Rs 48-43 per horse power.

The Consumer Council intensified its mobilization and met Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Arvind Kumar and member Sanjay Kumar Singh and raised the demand to take the proceedings forward.

The Council said that the Regulatory Commission should take the decision within the ambit of the law, so that the electricity consumers of the state will get the benefit for the next 3 months.

The Consumer Council was continuously pressurizing the Power Corporation to properly implement the fuel surcharge and finally today the Corporation’s proposal was revealed.

Consumer Council said that now its fight will be for its implementation further.

In the same sequence, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council and member of State Advisory Committee, Avadhesh Kumar Verma today met Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Arvind Kumar and member Sanjay Kumar Singh.

After meeting, he raised the demand to start action on this proposal without any delay, because due to this, the electricity consumers of the state will get benefit in their electricity rates for the next 3 months.

Earlier, the power companies of the state had filed a petition in the Fuel Occupancy Commission for increasing the electricity rates of the electricity consumers of the state by 61 paise per unit for Quarter 4 in July 2023, on which ultimately the objections filed by the Consumer Council and After the protest, the Power Corporation had automatically backed down and the entire matter was put on hold.

Now the Power Corporation has filed different category wise proposals in the Electricity Regulatory Commission for 35 paise per unit reduction in fuel rights fee, in which it has also been written that the increase which it was seeking earlier was to be given in True-
