(Update) 7 people died in fire in five-storey building in Mumbai’s Goregaon, PM Modi condoles loss of lives in fire, announces ex gratia

Mumbai, 06 October: Seven people died in a fire that broke out in the early hours of Friday in a five-storey building named Samarth Srishti located in Goregaon area of Mumbai.

As soon as information about the fire was received, the fire brigade personnel arrived with 10 vehicles and rescued about 50 people safely. Many of these people were rushed to Cooper Hospital and HBT Trauma Care Center as they experienced difficulty in breathing due to smoke. Some of these people have also got burnt.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the accident. He said that relief and rescue operations are going on.

According to the police, this building is in Unnat Nagar of Goregaon. The fire broke out at around 3 am in the parking lot of the ground floor of the building. Within no time the entire building was engulfed in flames.

It has been told that a bundle of clothes was kept in the parking lot of this building. This accident happened due to fire in this bundle. 30 two-wheelers and other four-wheelers present in the parking lot were also hit. Most of these vehicles were reduced to ashes. The fire brigade has currently controlled the fire. Cooling work is going on.

According to an eyewitness, there was a massive explosion early in the morning. Hearing this sound, they woke up from sleep. On looking down, they realized that there was a fire.

A person living in this building said that everyone in the house woke up after hearing the sound of the explosion. Coming out, he rang the bells of all the houses in the building and informed about the fire.

Local MLA and former minister Vidya Jaiprakash Thakur said that the people living in this building have been accommodated in the school of Unnat Nagar. Police say that the cause of the fire is being investigated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the loss of lives due to fire in a building in Goregaon, Mumbai and announced ex-gratia for the dependents. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs 50 thousand will be given to the injured.
