UP STF busts ‘forced’ religious conversion gang, kingpin Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba held

Lucknow, 05 July: The team of Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested four people including the kingpin of the gang, Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba, in the case of illegal conversion. People involved in his gang were converting girls by trapping them in Islamic net through ‘Love Jihad’. For this, they used to get huge amount and funding of crores has been done from abroad in 40 accounts, police said.

ADG LO Amitabh Yash said that Jalaluddin alias Changur Baba, a resident of Rehra Mafi of district Balrampur, used to promote himself by the name of Hazrat Jalaluddin Peer Baba. It was revealed that he was running a conversion gang in the district. In the investigation of STF, it was found that Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba has been living with Naveen Ghanshyam Rohra, resident of Mumbai, Naveen’s wife Neetu Naveen Rohra, daughter Samale Naveen Rohra for the last three-four years. All three persons are basically Sindhis. Changur Shah brainwashed all of them and made them accept Islam. After this, all three had changed their names to Jamaluddin, Nasreen and Sabiha. Changur Baba has also published a book named Shijr-e-Taiyyaba, through which he propagates Islam.

Converting religion by trapping in love trap

ADG LO told that a young woman from Lucknow had filed a complaint against Abu Ansari. She told that Abu trapped her in a love trap by introducing himself as Amit. He took her to Changur Baba, where Neetu alias Nasreen, Naveen alias Jamaluddin brainwashed her and made her accept Islam. She changed her name to Alina Ansari.

He further revealed that the amount for conversion is fixed. Fifteen to sixteen lakh rupees for converting a Brahmin, Sardar or Kshatriya girl of Hindu religion to Islam. Ten to twelve lakh rupees for a girl from backward caste and eight to ten lakh rupees for girls from other castes were fixed.

40 times travel to Islamic countries, transaction of crores

Amitabh Yash apprised that during investigation it was also found that the members of the gang have travelled to Islamic countries about 40 times. The gang members had opened more than 40 accounts in their own names and in the name of different organizations. Transactions of about 100 crore rupees have been done in these accounts.

Police officer adding further that during the probe it was also found that the main members of the gang, Changur Baba, Mehboob, Pinky Harijan, Hajira Shankar, Amen Rizvi (alleged journalist), Sagir, Neetu Rohra etc. look for such families which are helpless. They convert them by luring them with money. If they do not agree, they also put pressure to register a case. The ATS has also received information that a case has been registered against the associates and relatives of Changur Baba in the Devgaon police station of Azamgarh on the charges of illegal conversion.

ADG LO informed that the prime accused in the case of illegal conversion, the prize-declared accused Jalaluddin alias Chhangur, has been arrested. His three other associates have also been arrested.

He told that Jalaluddin runs a gang of conversion. People involved in his gang fully support him. Evidence of him getting funding from abroad has been found. ATS is investigating the entire matter.
