New Delhi, July 05: Fugitive diamond businessman Nirav Modi’s younger brother Nehal Modi has been arrested in America. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought his extradition. After these requests, he was arrested in America. Nehal Modi is wanted in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.
According to information given by the United States Department of Justice, fugitive diamond businessman Nirav Modi’s brother Nehal Modi was arrested by US authorities on July 4. The US Justice Department has confirmed his arrest. Nehal Modi is also accused of fraud of more than $ 2.6 million in New York. The next hearing date for his extradition proceedings has been set for July 17.
According to the complaint filed by the US prosecution, Nehal Modi’s extradition proceedings are being conducted in two cases. The first case is of money laundering under Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA), while the second case is of criminal conspiracy under Section 120-B and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It is worth mentioning that fugitive Nirav Modi’s younger brother Nehal Modi is wanted in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. In the investigation conducted by ED and CBI, Nehal Modi was found to be an important person working to legalize the criminal income of Nirav Modi, who is also facing extradition from Britain.
