UP Panchayat polls: Elections to be held in 4 phases, counting of votes on May 2

Lucknow, 26 March: The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the dates for panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Panchayat polls will be held in four phases in all 75 districts of the state.

State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar said that the first phase of polls will be held on April 15, the second phase will be voted on April 19, the third phase will be voted on April 26 and the fourth phase will be voted on April 29.

He informed that first phase elections will be held in one district each of all 18 divisions. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.

Meanwhile, with the announcement of election dates, the code of conduct has come into force in the state. At the same time, the reservation case will be heard in the Supreme Court today.

The announcement of panchayat election dates today is considered to be very important, as Dilip Kumar of Biswan in Sitapur district has filed a special petition in the Supreme Court against the order issued by the High Court on March 15.

In this, along with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Panchayati Raj Department, the State Election Commission has also been made a party.

Therefore, the eyes of the prospective candidates as well as their workers are also on the hearing of the Supreme Court.
