UP: gang-rape case: Former SP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati sentenced to life imprisonment

Lucknow, 12 November: The special court of MP-MLA on Friday late evening sentenced three convicts, including former minister in Samajwadi party (SP) government Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, to life imprisonment in connection with the gang rape of a Chitrakoot woman. A fine of Rs 2 lakh each has also been imposed on all three.

In this case, on November 10, the court had reserved the verdict by convicting Prajapati and his two associates. It was said that the court would give this decision on November 12.

At the same time, four other accused in this case, Chanderpal, Gayatri’s gunner, PRO Rupeshwar alias Rupesh and son of a senior PCS officer Vikas Verma and Amarendra Singh alias Pintu were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence. All three accused were present in the court on Friday.

The case was filed four years ago

The Supreme Court had taken cognizance of the case of gang rape of a woman and torturing her daughter.

After this, a case was registered against former minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and other six accused in Gautampalli police station of Lucknow four years ago on February 18, 2017 of gang rape, threat to life under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In March 2017, all the accused, including Gayatri, were taken into custody and sent to jail.

It is worth mentioning that the victim woman of Chitrakoot had accused Gayatri Prajapati and his companions of raping her and also her minor daughter. After this, the Supreme Court had given this order to the Lucknow Police to act on the application of the rape victim.
