Lucknow, 02 November: Energy and Additional Energy Resources Minister Shrikant Sharma reviewed the Energy Department on Tuesday.

He expressed displeasure over the very slow progress of the one-time settlement plan.

Expressing displeasure over complaints of wrong billing, non-receipt of bills on time and disconnection of power supply on small arrears, he has also directed to ensure accountability.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) chairman should get the work done of new billing agencies audited every month in the interest of consumer. The Minister said that any kind of negligence in consumer services is not acceptable.

On the slow progress of the one-time solution scheme, he said that the government has started a very important scheme in the interest of the consumer, but the officials of the department are yet to reach the homes of the consumers. This is not appropriate under any circumstances. Knock on the door of all the big defaulters first, tell them its benefits.

โ€œThe MDs of DISCOMS should fix the accountability on complaints of disconnection of connections on low arrears. Strictly deal with those who harass the consumers,โ€ said Sharma.

He directed to fix the day-to-day targets of the billing agencies, and added that the DISCOM MD should review it every month. The chairman of UPPCL should also monitor this. All consumers should get bills on time; there should be no error in the bill, every month the reading of the meter should be ensured. If there is any deficiency, make the concerned accountable by removing it immediately. Ensure accountability of agencies not complying with the instructions.

He also expressed displeasure over complaints about the delay in issuing the first bill after giving the connection and said that there is no justification for issuing the bill after 4-5 months, he directed the UPPCL chairman to review it and further said that after issuing the connection to the consumer, it should be ensured that he gets the bill on time.

He directed that wherever there is no electricity connection in the Prime Minister’s and Chief Minister’s residences, the concerned district officials should provide electricity connection there at the earliest. MD district wise review it. No interested person should be deprived of electricity connection.

He also directed all the DISCOMs MDs to inspect the power houses themselves. All the officers should also go to the field so that they will also be aware of the ground reality. Ensure quality of consumer services, fix accountability on negligence.
