UP Dalit youth made to kiss shoes, one arrested

Sonbhadra, July 9: A Dalit youth was allegedly assaulted by a contractual employee of the State Electricity Department who forced him to kiss his shoe.

The culprit has been apprehended, and an FIR has been filed against him. His services have likewise been terminated with immediate effect by the Department.

The event occurred in the Sonbhadra district, near the Shahganj Police Station. The contractual lineman bashed the youth who had connected power lines that had been terminated owing to pending debts of some persons. The footage of the July 6 event is becoming popular on social media.

The DGP has also taken notice of the situation. The DIG has been dispatched to the location to conduct an investigation.

On Sunday, Police CO Amit Kumar announced that culprit Tejbali Singh was detained after a complaint was filed.

According to sources, efforts were undertaken to downplay the occurrence for two days. The victim was under so much strain that he was unable to file a FIR even after arriving at the police station.

The victim was summoned to the police station as soon as the video became popular on social media. He exchanged details about the situation after seeing the video but refused to file a complaint.

After much coaxing from the police, he consented to submit the application late in the night, after which the police initiated action by filing a case under the SC/ST Act and other provisions of the IPC.
