Bahraich, 22 March: A special court here sentenced a 50-year-old man to life in jail for raping a one-year-old girl on Friday. Additional District Judge (POCSO) Varun Mohit Nigam awarded a Rs 1.29 lakh fine on the defendant.
Sant Pratap Singh, Special District Government Advocate (POCSO Act), informed that Bhondu Rehman raped a Scheduled Caste girl from her village.
On February 17, the prisoner picked up the child and took her away on some excuse. When she did not return for a while, her family went out to look for her and discovered Bhondu in a mustard field with a wounded toddler.
Singh said that after seeing the family, Bhondu ran away leaving the girl. A case was registered against the accused under the IPC sections including rape and the POCSO Act.
