UP ATS arrests two ‘Maulanas’ for religious conversion of deaf children and women

Lucknow, June 21: Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS) arrested Mohammad Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahangir Qasmi, residents of Jamia, Delhi on charges of forceful religion conversion.

UP ATS has unearthed a big conspiracy by arresting two Maulanas who converted to Islam by targeting deaf children and women for the last two years.

Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said on Monday that both the arrested clerics have converted 350 people into Islam. Evidence of this has been found, in the past, 18 children of a deaf and dumb school in Noida district were also converted to Islam.

He said that the network of both the accused Mohammad Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahangir Qasmi is spread in other states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh.

“However, UP ATS has registered an FIR at Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow. Both the Maulanas are being interrogated. In the initial investigation, the conversion of Mohammad Umar Gautam from Hindu to Muslim has come to the fore,” added ADG L&O.
