United Nations, 17 Nov: Israel refused to accept a proposal passed by the United Nations for a brief ceasefire for the supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The resolution was passed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Such a resolution was passed for the first time.

Israel said that no opportunity can be given for Hamas to evade its attack unless all the hostages are rescued. There is no scarcity of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

In the resolution, concern about shortage of humanitarian aid was expressed for about 2.3 million people in Gaza.

The UNSC appealed for a brief break in attack by Israel. Israel has encircled the entire Gaza city. Out of the 15 members, 12 voted in favour of the resolution.

Meanwhile, three others USA, Britain, and Russia did not vote. USA and Britain opposed voting to pass the resolution. Russia protested the demand for a ceasefire. There was no mention of the release of the hostages in the resolution.
