Two patients died due to fire in SGPGI, Lucknow, probe ordered

Lucknow, 18 Dec: A fire broke out on Monday in the operation theatre (OT) of the neuro department of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), located in the capital Lucknow. Two patients, including a woman and a child, died in the fire.

According to SGPGI administration, the fire immediately spread throughout the OT.

During this time, heart surgery of a woman as well as a child was going on in the OT of Endo Surgery. Therefore, they could not be saved. All the patients present in the OT have been shifted to the post-operative ICU. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the fire incident at SGPGI.

The Chief Minister has instructed senior officials and fire brigade teams to reach the spot and carry out relief work expeditiously.

The Chief Minister directed the district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide proper treatment.

The Chief Minister wished speedy recovery of all the injured. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire incident at SGPGI.

Brajesh Pathak said that Principal Secretary Medical Education Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma has been sent to the spot.
