This is a budget of the country’s aspirations, says Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, 01 February: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has laid the General Budget for the financial year 2020-21 on the table of the Parliament. The Finance Minister said that our foundation is strong. This is the budget of the country’s aspirations. She first paid tribute to the late Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the budget with the permission of Lok Sabha Speaker.

Sitharaman said that our government has brought about a lot of changes between 2014 and 2019. She said that inflation is under control. Banking system have also improved.

She said that income tax can be reduced from 20 per cent to 10 per cent on income ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. The deduction under 80-C can be increased from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.

Significantly, she is the first woman Finance Minister to present the budget for the second consecutive time. Before that, Indira Gandhi once presented the budget in February 1970.
