Tamil Nadu plays an important role in meeting the country’s energy needs: Prime Minister

New Delhi, 25 February: Inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of various development projects in poll-bound Tamil Nadu today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this state is playing an important role in meeting the energy needs of the country.

The Prime Minister inaugurated 41,441 residential buildings on Thursday. Along with this, he laid the foundation stone for the modernization project of Bhawani Sagar Dam. This dam will irrigate more than two lakh acres of land. This project will benefit the farmers of many districts.

With this, the Prime Minister dedicated two big power projects to the nation and laid the foundation stone of another power project.

Modi said that the 709 MW solar power project has been developed indigenously and the cost of this project is more than Rs 3,000 crore. Another 1,000 MW thermal power project constructed at a cost of Rs 7,800 crore will be highly beneficial for Tamil Nadu. More than 65 percent of the energy generated from this will be given to Tamil Nadu.

The Prime Minister also launched several projects related to ports. He said that these projects will further strengthen the cargo handling capacity of the ports and will also support the Green Port initiative.
