Bhopal, 03 January:The sun will be closest to the earth on January 4. Bhopal’s national awardee science broadcaster Sarika Gharu on Tuesday said that due to orbiting on an elliptical path, the Earth comes near the Sun one day in a year and remains farthest one day.

The distance from the centre of the Earth to the centre of the Sun will be approximately 14.7 crore km on Wednesday. This will be the shortest distance of the year. This is called perihelion in astronomy.

The distance on July 7 will be more than 15.2 crore km. This is the maximum distance between the Earth and the Sun in a year.

Even after being near the hot sun, parts of the northern hemisphere of the earth are chilly. The reason for this is that the Sun is near the Tropic of Capricorn at this time and the rays coming from there are coming in this part with an inclination of 45 degrees. Due to the oblique rays, the heat of the sun spreads, that is why the temperature decreases in December/January.
