Spike in Covid-19 cases in UP due to people returning from other states, raises concern among officials

Lucknow, 16 March: In the state of Uttar Pradesh like many other states of the country, spike in the cases of coronavirus infection in the last few days has raised the concern among the officials of the health department.

Meanwhile, infections have been found especially in many districts of the state among people travelling from other states. In such a situation, all are being urged to be more cautious.

 Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health Amit Mohan Prasad said on Tuesday that 228 new cases have been reported in the last twenty four hours. During the same period, 138 patients were discharged when they were healthy. In this way, more people are vulnerable to infection than those who recover.

Due to increase in the number of cases, the number of active cases in the state has now reached to 1,912. So far 8,750 people have died from the infection. Two people died of corona in the last twenty four hours.

A total of 1, 00329 samples were tested in one day in the state yesterday taking total tally of testing to 3, 29, 48,378 in the state so far. Out of total active cases of corona in the state, 79 people are in private hospitals. Apart from this, the remaining patients are undergoing treatment in home isolation and government hospitals.

He informed that since the first case of corona was reported in March last year, 5,94,993 people have recovered and discharged from Covid-19 so far. A population of 15,30,24,269 of 3,15,19,835 households has been surveyed through 5,12,847 team days in 1,86,314 areas through surveillance teams in the state.

More than three lakh people took the vaccine dose on Monday

Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health informed that a program is being carried to give coronavirus shot across the entire state. “Yesterday, 3, 11,351 people were vaccinated in the state. Uttar Pradesh is the only state to have vaccinated more than three lakh people twice a day. Earlier on March 12, more than three lakh people took the vaccine dose in a single day,” he added.  

Prasad further said that however, in view of the population of the state, efforts are on to get more number of vaccinations. This will be possible with the cooperation of the people. So far, more than 30 lakh vaccine doses have been given to the people in the state.

He said that comorbid people between 45 and 60 years of age are also being vaccinated. At the same time, there is no condition of any kind for those who are above 60 years of age, they can go to their nearest center and get vaccinated.

“Vaccination is being done in the Medical College and District Hospital from Monday to Saturday and Covid Vaccination is being carried out at Community Health Center and Primary Health Center on Monday, Thursday and Friday,” he concluded.
