Lucknow, September 24 The brother-in-law of a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA committed suicide by hanging himself on Wednesday in the Gomti Nagar police station area of โโLucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

Police reached the spot after receiving the information and sent the body for post-mortem and started investigating the case.
Shobha Ram Verma, who lived in Srijan Vihar Colony of Gomti Nagar police station, was an engineer in the District Panchayat Department in Ballia. His son Kartikeya (27), Raj Verma, was preparing for competitive exams while running a hotel in Ambedkar Nagar. His brother-in-law, Kavinder Chaudhary, is an SP MLA from Kaptanganj assembly constituency in Basti district.
The family informed the police on Wednesday that their son Kartikeya had hanged himself at home. On receiving the information, station in-charge Brajesh Chandra Tiwari reached the spot with the force. The incident was investigated, but no suicide note was found.
The station in-charge stated that during questioning, Devendra Chaudhary, a relative of the deceased, revealed that Kartikeya had been suffering from depression for quite some time. Perhaps this is why he hanged himself. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the case is being investigated.
