Hyderabad, April 2: A 26-year-old software engineer has committed suicide in an apartment in Miyapur, the city. A relationship that began on social media turned tragic just 50 days after marriage, police apprised.
The police have registered a case against the husband based on a complaint from the deceased’s father. The family alleges that their daughter was harassed for additional dowry. Police have taken the deceased’s husband into custody and are investigating the matter.
According to Miyapur Inspector P. Shivprasad, Ishika Yadav, a resident of Bihar, met Neeraj Bansal, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, through Facebook about five years ago. Their friendship gradually blossomed into a love affair. The two had been living in a live-in relationship for the past five years. The couple married in Patna on February 10 of this year in the presence of their families, after which they were living in an apartment in Miyapur, Hyderabad.
According to the police, on Wednesday night, Ishika committed suicide by hanging herself in her room. Upon receiving information in the morning, she was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead. Based on a complaint from the deceased’s parents, the police have registered a case against her husband.
The police told that the family alleges that Ishika was being mentally harassed by demands for gold and diamond jewellery as dowry. The constant pressure caused her to become stressed, leading to this extreme step. It is alleged that the husband was mentally harassing her for additional dowry and was also pressuring her family to invest in his startup.
Inspector Shiv Prasad stated that all aspects are being investigated to determine the exact cause of death. He added that statements from family members and others are being recorded. The accused has been taken into police custody, and if the allegations are found to be true, strict action will be taken against him.
