SCBA shortlists 48 SC advocates for HCs judges

New Delhi, August 13: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Search Committee has prepared a list of names of 48 Supreme Court lawyers to be considered for promotion as High Court judges.

However, before preparing this list, the SCBA committee had discussed 69 names. The SCBA Search Committee has unanimously agreed on 48 names.

The SCBA Search Committee held its last meeting on August 9. Search Committee prepared names for High Courts of Allahabad, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Guwahati, Manipur, Kerala, Calcutta, Punjab and Haryana, Rajasthan, Madras, Jharkhand, Bombay, Patna, Telangana, Karnataka, Orissa and Jammu and Kashmir Is.

This search committee of SCBA includes Mahalaxmi Pavani, Rakesh Dwivedi, Shekhar Naphde, Vijay Hansaria and V Giri.

SCBA President and senior advocate Vikas Singh had said on June 8 that Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana had agreed to the SCBA’s proposal to appoint Supreme Court lawyers as High Court judges.

After getting the green signal from the Chief Justice, the executive committee of SCBA constituted a search committee.
