SC to hear Manipur assault video matter today

New Delhi, July 31: The two women who were paraded naked in Manipur have approached the Supreme Court. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the petitions of both women today itself.

Both women have said in the petition filed through advocate Javedur Rahman that an independent and impartial inquiry should be conducted into the incident.

It is notable that the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of this matter on July 20. In this matter, the Central Government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court.

The Central Government has said that the investigation is being transferred to the CBI with the consent of the State Government. Speedy disposal of cases is essential.

The central government has demanded that the Supreme Court order the transfer of the case outside the state and ask the trial court to give its verdict within six months of the charge sheet.
