Nagpur, 29 Jan: Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has been granted time till February 15 to decide on the disqualification of MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party’s Ajit Pawar group. The petition was filed by the NCP’s founder President Sharad Pawar.

Earlier the Supreme Court had granted time till January 31 in connection with the issue. Three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud extended the date till February 15, after hearing the Speaker’s plea seeking an extension of time till February 21.

Narvekar was occupied in deciding the disqualification petition of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde group) versus Shiv Sena 9Uddhav Thackeray group).

NCP leader Ajit Pawar along with his supporters broke out from NCP and joined the ruling Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis (Shiv Sena-BJP) ruling alliance. Ajit Pawar called himself the real NCP as he has the support of the majority of the party?s legislators. His revolt against the founder president of the party Sharad Pawar led to a petition for disqualification by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar demanding the disqualification of MLAs from both factions.
