Mathura, 23 July: The last rites of Sant Vijay Das, who committed self-immolation against mining, took place on Saturday evening at Mataji Gaushala in Barsana.

Before that his 16-year-old granddaughter paid her last visit. His body was brought to Barsana from Delhi on Saturday afternoon. A large number of people gathered along with saints for his last ‘darshan’. His last rites were performed at around five o’clock in the evening.

Cabinet Minister Chaudhary Laxminarayan, Mathura’s DM, SSP and many officers attended the funeral.

It may be mentioned that Sant Vijay Das had been protesting in Pasopa area of ​​Bharatpur, Rajasthan for 500 days against the mining of Adi Bradi and Kanikanchal Mountain. He set himself on fire 551 days later on 20 July.

A video of his self-immolation also surfaced. The body was on fire and he is seen running saying Radhe-Radhe. He was first admitted to Jaipur in critical condition and then to Delhi’s Safdarganj Hospital. He died at 3 am on Saturday.

DM Navneet Singh Chahal and SSP Abhishek Yadav had inspected before the body reached the Mataji Gaushala in Barsana, after that the UP government’s cabinet minister Chaudhary Lakshmi Narayan reached Mataji Gaushala in the last darshan of Sant Vijay Das.

At the same time, Yogi Balak Nath, MP from Alwar in Rajasthan also joined. The mortal remains of the saint were taken to Kaman in Rajasthan before being brought to Mataji Gaushala of Mathura where the holy Vimal Kund was circumambulated along with the mortal remains of the saint.

BJP National President JP Nadda expressed deep grief over the death of Sant Vijay Das and constituted a high level committee of the party. This committee will go to Bharatpur and collect information after visiting the spot.

Also, soon the report will be submitted to Nadda. This committee includes BJP’s National General Secretary, Rajasthan in-charge and MP Arun Singh, Sikar MP Sumedhanand Saraswati, MP Satya Pal Singh and MP Brijlal.
