Race for Prez: Tribal leader Draupadi Murmu to be NDA candidate in Prez poll

New Delhi, 21 June: In the parliamentary board meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), it was decided to make Draupadi Murm the candidate for the post of President from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Murmu’s name was announced by party president JP Nadda after a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday evening.

He said that for the first time a woman tribal leader from Odisha has been given preference as the President. We declare Draupadi Murmu as NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential election.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached the party headquarters, was welcomed by the party’s national president JP Nadda.

Apart from Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other members of the Parliamentary Board attended the meeting held at the party headquarters.

Ahead of this important meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President JP Nadda met Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. After this there was speculation that the BJP might pick Naidu its candidate in the presidential election.

It is noteworthy that the term of the current President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on July 24. The Election Commission has issued notification for the election of the President.

Under this, the process of nomination for the Presidential election has started and June 29 is the last date for filing nominations. If necessary, polling will be held on July 18.
