Varanasi, 24 July: Ghazipur district administration and police attached four plots worth Rs 15 crore belonging to local Bahujan Samaj Party MP Afzal Ansari, the elder brother of incarcerated mafia don Mukhtar Ansari. The action has been taken under Gangster Act.

According to SP Ghazipur Rohan P Botre, as part of the ongoing campaign to dismantle criminals’ economic empires, police have gathered information on properties acquired by Afzal using unlawfully gained money in the Macha, Panetha, Narsinghpur Tarayi, and Khardiha areas of Mohammadabad tehsil.

According to him, a report was forwarded to the district magistrate based on the same data in order to initiate appropriate action under the Gangster Act, under which Afzal was charged in 2007, and the DM issued an order for seizure of the same properties on July 22.

To carry out the same DM’s order, the SP Ghazipur arrived in Mohammadabad with a large contingent of district administration, police, land revenue department, and heavy police force personnel. The legal requirements of land attachment were accomplished in all four villages under the supervision of the SP.

“Among these properties acquired with unlawfully generated money, Afzal had also handed some of the plots to his daughters,” SP stated of the move.
