Islamabad, 16 Aug (HS): The prices of petrol and high-speed diesel have reached a record high level, with the caretaker government increasing the prices on Tuesday evening, by Rs 20 per litre.

The Finance Department issued a notification on a hike of Rs 17.50 per litre for petrol and Rs 20 for high-speed diesel.

With the hike, the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel have reached Rs 290 and Rs 293.4 per litre, respectively. The prices of kerosene and normal diesel remain the same.

According to the newspaper Dawn, the prices were hiked with the permission of the caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar. The hike is a result of a rise in prices in the international market. This was the second hike in the last fortnight. In the last 15 days, the prices of petrol and diesel have gone up by Rs 40.
