New Delhi, December 8: India, taking a dig at the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan and the ongoing political crisis surrounding it, said today that it has been well known from the beginning that Pakistan and democracy do not go together.

Commenting on questions regarding the ongoing developments in Pakistan at the regular briefing here on Monday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that no amount of talk about democracy there would be enough.

Responding to questions regarding the imprisonment of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and the situation there, Jaiswal said that India keeps a close watch on every development in the neighboring country.

He further said that as far as the weakening of democracy in Pakistan is concerned, no amount of talk would be enough. Pakistan and democracy do not go together.

In response to another question, the spokesperson responded to the border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said India strongly supports Afghanistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.

The spokesperson said, “We have received reports of border clashes in which several Afghan civilians have been killed. We condemn such attacks on innocent Afghans.”
