Online child sexual racket: CBI arrests 7 accused in child sexual abuse case

New Delhi, November 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested seven accused from different places including Delhi, Dhenkanal (Odisha), Noida (UP), Jhansi (UP), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) in the ongoing probe of a case related to alleged online child sexual abuse.

According to the CBI, the arrested accused are being produced in the competent courts today.

During investigation, it was revealed that the accused were allegedly sharing links to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSEM) through certain websites. It turned out that some persons were also involved in trading of CSEM material.

The CBI on Sunday registered 23 separate cases against 83 accused on charges related to online child sexual abuse.

It was alleged that various syndicates of persons located in different parts of India and abroad were involved in circulating, storing and viewing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSEM) through various social media platforms and groups.

It was also alleged that these people were disseminating CSEM through links, videos, images, text, posts and hosting of such content on social media groups or platforms and third party hosting platforms.

As per the preliminary information collected, there are more than 50 groups in which more than 5 thousand perpetrators are sharing child sexual abuse material. Many of these groups also involve foreign nationals.

Initially it is learned that citizens of around 100 countries spread across different continents may be involved. The CBI is coordinating with the agencies through formal and informal channels.
