Delhi, 23 March: The Indian government, through the commerce ministry, has extended the export ban on onions until further notice. This decision comes as a result of a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on March 22. Previously, the export ban was only in effect until March 31 of this year. However, the government has now decided to extend the prohibition until further orders.

The DGFT, which is responsible for handling export and import-related issues, stated that the export ban will be valid until March 31, 2024, unless further notice is given. This move by the government aims to ensure that there is an adequate supply of onions in the domestic market and to stabilize prices. It also highlights the government’s efforts to support local farmers and prevent hoarding or black marketing of this essential vegetable.

This decision will have a significant impact on onion exports and could potentially lead to a shortage in international markets as India is one of the top exporters of onions worldwide.
