One detained, another absconding in sadhu’s murder in Ayodhya’s Hanumangarhi Temple

Ayodhya, 19 Oct: Two people reportedly strangled a 44-year-old sadhu on the precincts of Ayodhya’s iconic Hanumangarhi Temple, police said on Thursday.

According to a top police officer, one individual has been apprehended and another is on the run. Ram Sahare Das, a Naga sadhu who was strangled late Wednesday night, was identified as the victim.

Police claimed a deep mark was detected on his neck and that they assume a man who used to reside on the temple grounds but is now on the run is responsible for the murder. A complaint has been filed against two people, including Rishabh Shukla, who is alleged to be on the run.

“A complaint made by an aide of the deceased against two persons has been received,” said Raj Karan Nayyar, Senior Superintendent of Police in Ayodhya. One of the suspects has been arrested (for questioning), while the other is on the run.”

Meanwhile, Raju Das, the mahant (head priest) of Hanumangarhi Temple, stated that the deceased sadhu had been a resident of Hanumangarhi since 1991, when he was a toddler.

“He was a mahant of an ashram in Hanumangarhi, where he used to impart (spiritual) education to about ten students,” said Das. Das also called for a “fair and impartial investigation” into the event.
