New Governor of UP Anandiben Patel administered oath of office and secrecy by Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Govind Mathur. Outgoing Governor Ram Naik was also present during the oath- taking ceremony.

Lucknow,July 29: There was a break in tradition here on Monday.Traditionally, before the new governor is administered oath, the out-going governor leaves Raj Bhavan and is not present during the occasion. But Ram Naik who retired as Uttar Pradesh government a week ago was present during the oath-taking ceremony.

He had himself announced it on Sunday, a day earlier, while addressing industrialists and others who had come to attend the second ground-breaking ceremony.Union home minister Amit Shah was the chief guest.

He said he was opposed to the old tradition and wanted to create a new one.He had sought the President’s nod for it which was received more than a week ago. As a result,he had  told the gathering,he has got a week’s”bonus”.His terms had ended on July 22 but he would stay till July 29 (today) and leave after the new incumbent takes over.

Naik was ,therefore, present during the oath-taking ceremony and left after that. New state governor is Anandiben Patel who was administered oath  of office and secrecy by chief justice   of the Allahabad High Court justice Govind Mathur .State chief minister Yogi Adityanath, his cabinet colleagues and several others were present.
