NCST team to visit Sonbhadra to inquire into the incident of killings of 10 persons

New Delhi, July 21: It has come to the notice of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) through Print and Electronic Media on 18 July that 10 persons belonging to Scheduled Tribes have been killed and several injured over a land dispute in Umbha village of Sonbhadra  District of Uttar Pradesh.

Keeping in view of the seriousness of the incident, the Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, UP and District Collector and SP of Sonbhadra District to send factual and action taken report in the matter.

The Commission has also decided to visit the place of incident, meet the family members of deceased and injured persons and to hold meeting with the Administrative and Police officers in the District on 22 July.

Accordingly, a team of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes comprising of Dr. Nand Kumar Sai, Chairperson, Smt. Maya Chintamn Ivnate, Member, S. K. Ratho, Joint Secretary to Govt. of India and Shri R.K. Dubey, Assistant Director will visit Sonbhadra District to inquire into the incident. The team will visit Umbha village in the forenoon of 22 July and meet the victims. In the afternoon, the team will hold a meeting with Divisional Commissioner, Mirzapur, Addl. Director General of Police, Varanasi Range, District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Sonbhadra District.
