New Delhi, 11 Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth will attend the inauguration of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conference on Monday.
India has emerged as a pioneer in Fintech innovation and Digital Public Infrastructure. The Prime Minister has put a high priority on sharing our development experiences and innovations with partner nations.
Given India’s strong cultural and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka and Mauritius, the launch will benefit a wide range of people by providing a faster and more seamless digital transaction experience while also improving digital connectivity between the countries, according to an official press statement issued on Sunday.
The launch would make UPI settlement services available to Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The expansion of RuPay card services in Mauritius would allow Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius, facilitating the use of RuPay Cards for settlements in both India and Mauritius.
